Common Symptoms and Causes of Abdominal Pains

There are times wherein what started out as a minor discomfort along your midsection later turns into a full-blown ache. There are plenty of reasons why this condition can manifest. It can be as simple as the food you ate, or as grave as the side effect of an underlying medical condition. Either way, one way of tracing the cause would be to distinguish the pattern of the pain.

Most doctors would find it alarming if the pain remains for a few hours up to several days. When this happens, they start tracing the patient’s history records, conducting medical tests, and undergoing several investigative procedures. It is through proper diagnosis that a doctor will determine the remedy.

Although most types of abdominal pains are not life threatening, they could escalate if not treated as soon as possible. In order to understand what triggers these reactions, you must first understand the affected area. Basically, the abdomen is the part of the body lined with the membrane peritoneum. This starts with the oesophagus, stomach, intestines (big and small) liver, pancreas, kidneys, ureters, gall bladder, and adrenal glands (in females, this also includes the uterus, ovaries, and tubes).

All of these organs are categorised into the following regions, namely upper, central, lower, and sides. Pain from any of these areas can either be triggered by the following:

1. Upper

This pertains to the area between the lower margins of the rib cage to the down to the belly button. Most conditions along this area are a lot easier to treat, such as indigestion and trapped wind. If the pain lasts for a few days, then you should visit a doctor.

2. Central

Pain along this portion should be handled more diligently since this area holds some of the most vital organs of your digestive tract. Basically, pain from this area might be triggered by a disease affecting the mid line structures. You should consult a doctor if the condition is threatening or can be easily treated.

3. Lower

Women who experience discomfort or pain along this area should have their reproductive organs checked. This is because this region contains the ovaries, tube, and uterus.

4. Left

Whenever you experience mild discomfort along this area, check if it is triggered by constipation, diverticulitis, and irritable bowel syndrome, then apply the proper treatment.

5. Right

In order to determine the cause, you should pinpoint which region the pain is strongest and how long it lasted. It could either be on the upper, central, and lower part. Some of the causes of these might either be trapped wind, appendicitis, or ulcers.

Whatever the case may be, you should try to avoid these conditions as much as possible. One way of achieving this would be to have a healthy and balanced diet. You should also start taking superfit sports supplements since they contain concentrated doses of vitamins and minerals. Not to mention, you should also start strengthening your abdomen through exercises such as belly dancing.
